Over the past year, NFTs and the metaverse have sparked conversations and projects within the cultural sector as museums sought ways to engage with the digital medium. Some have minted and sold NFTs to fundraise and reach new audiences, others have staged NFT-centered exhibitions, and a few have taken steps into the metaverse. But uncertainty and hesitation still surrounds the digital phenomenon. Where do museums fit into the NFT field? How can they get involved in the space and marketplace? And what can the metaverse do for brick-and-mortar institutions?

To explore these questions and illuminate how the museum sector can better engage with NFTs, Jing Culture & Commerce has teamed up with Iconic Moments to present “NFTs, The Metaverse, and Museums: How Cultural Institutions Can Find New Ways Into Storytelling And Revenue” on Tuesday, March 15, at 11am EST.

Moderated by Chris Cummings, Founder and CEO of NFT platform Iconic Moments, and Fei Lu, Staff Writer and Multimedia Producer at Jing Culture & Commerce, the virtual event will discuss NFTs as they relate to museums, opportunities and challenges when engaging with NFTs and the metaverse, and concrete ways institutions can participate in the space. The webinar follows Jing Culture & Commerce’s 2021 report, NFTs And Cultural Institutions: A Guide To The Crypto Space For Museums And The Arts and the launch of its NFT-focused newsletter, Jing Culture & Crypto.

Joining the webinar are panelists including Rocky Bucano, Executive Director of the Universal Hip Hop Museum, and Madison Cario, CEO of the Minnesota Street Project, among others. They will share their respective organizations’ plans for and experiences within the crypto art space, and insights into how NFTs and the metaverse can help museums generate revenue and vitally, expand on their storytelling efforts.
